GARDENfresh gallery is pleased to present new video works by Dana Sperry.
The videos focus on revealing states of loneliness and isolation, as well as the potential
distortion of realities within a culture. The exhibition will feature three new works:

Sketches for Minor Intermezzi for the Masses
Through manipulating video footage of people in motion against the "constant" of the surrounding architecture, the series of video sketches capture the tenuous nature of the individual lost within society.

First Person Shooter or the New Riders of the Apocalypse
During several hours spent playing an online video game, Dana Sperry became aware of the intense isolation between myself and other humans, both spatially and emotionally. With the rapid expansion of "communication" technology that distances people from having physical interactions with one another, the face of the apocalypse needed to be updated to reflect the ills affecting contemporary culture.

Humpty Dumpty: the Battle for the Corner Rages On
Using footage from Civil War re-enactments played in reverse, the video piece explores the romantic notions attached to the spectacles of warfare. Installed in a corner and titled after a nursery rhyme originally written to celebrate a victory in the English Civil War, the work attempts to question the childish attraction humans have towards destruction.

Dana Sperry lives in Nacogdoches, Texas. He exhibits his work throughout the United States including Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, and New York. Recently, Dana completed an installation at Southeastern Contemporary Art Center in Hammond, Louisiana and an artist residency at the Hungarian Multicultural Center in Budapest, Hungary. Dana Sperry is currently working on upcoming exhibitions at the North Harris Community College in Houston, Texas and the Coleman Arts Center in Troy, Alabama.
