GARDENfresh is proud to present the latest
solo exhibition by Chicago-based artist Greg Shirilla. In the past
Shirilla has worked in numerous media, including drawing, painting,
photography, and mixed media. His current work combines all of these
techniques with a digital edge while also being influenced by traditions
of graphic design and current trends in contemporary illustration.
For his show with GARDENfresh Shirilla continues his devotion to mixing media
and presents a new body of work created primarily from the pages of his sketchbooks.
These large-scale, digitized versions are subtlety autobiographical in tone and
are based on such vague subject matter as fast food, smoking, and "friendship".
Ultimately, these works contain details that allow the viewer a closer look at
the inner workings of the artist's mind – jumbled nonsense and all.
A graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design, Greg Shirilla is currently
a member of the art collective Die Käse Hause, which he co- founded in 1994.
Along with exhibitions in New York, Chicago, and Ohio, his work has appeared
in such publications as Punk Planet and Outburn. He also works regularly with
the t-shirt company Secret Handshake Designs.
