Welcome
to the New Year! For our first project of 2006 Gardenfresh presents
the work of Milwaukee artist Kathryn Martin. Martin works in the
realm of obsession and conception, placing herself within a long
line of conceptual artists using found cultural objects to engage
the viewer in dialogue with-in and with-out the exhibition space.
For her first show with Gardenfresh Martin presents the image/object of a paper airplane en masse. Martin takes the familiar object of a paper airplane and transforms it into a metaphor for commerce and consumption. The planes consume and define the space while challenging notions of relationship and scale. Moving without direction, the flow of the piece evokes a quiet and aimless exodus.
Martin is currently an MFA graduate candidate at UW Milwaukee. She has had solo shows at Hotcakes Gallery in Milwaukee and at Beloit College. In addition Martin has been in numerous group shows in Wisconsin and New York
